Howard J. Burt, 88, of Dawsonville, died Friday, April 2. 2010.

  

Born Aug. 19, 1921 to the late Alonzo and Nettie Burt, Mr. Burt was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.

  

He owned and operated Howard Burt Trucking, was one of the founding directors of First Community Bank of Dawsonville, which later became BB&T.

  

Along with his brother, he developed real estate in the Norcross and area and ran a farming operation.

  

Mr. Burt took much pride in his restoration of antique tractors.

  

He was a member of Goshen Baptist Church, where he served as church clerk for 45 years and was a member of Etowah Lodge #222, F&AM.

  

His first wife, Bonnelle Burt; sister, Cleo Whelchel; and brothers, Clyde Burt, Carl Burt and Ted Burt, preceded him in death.

  

Survivors include his wife, Jewel Burt of Dawsonville; children, Ann and Danny Kinnard, Johnny and Kathy Burt, all of Dawsonville; sisters and brother-in-law, Inez and Grady McGuire of Cumming, Irene Harben of Dawsonville; brothers and sister-in-law, Dean Burt of Clarkesville, Winford and Laura Mae Burt of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Rick and Melissa Kinnard, Jon and Terri Kinnard, Kasey Burt, Russell and Keena Burt, Cameron and Crystal Burt; 13 great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 5 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Russell Burt, Jason Hamby, Casey Martin and Jeff Burt officiating. Interment followed in the Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery.

  

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to the Goshen Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1055, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
