Garwood E. DeGeer, 68, died Aug. 4, 2013.

Garwood E. and twin brother, Gregory F. were born July 31, 1945, to Reginald and Norma Zimmerman DeGeer at Midland Hospital.

He graduated from Midland High School and attended Central Michigan University prior to serving in the Michigan National Guard.

Garwood married Andra Jo Daw, who preceded him in death Jan. 25, 2013, after 47 years of marriage.

The couple moved to Georgia in 1980, where he was employed for more than 20 years at Allied Reprographics.

Gar was an avid animal lover and active in the Cat Fancier's Association. The most notable of many awards is 1985 National "Cat of the Year," a silver tabby "The Great American Hero" (Mr. H).

Survivors include his twin brother, Gregory and Emily DeGeer; brother, Dick and Veronica DeGeer, all of Midland; sister, Sue Degeer Cox and husband Charles of Doraville; sister-in-law, Kyrie and Rick Lentz; various other relatives also survive.

Private services were held.

Byars Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
