Elizabeth Janice Chumbley Canup, 68, of Dawsonville, died Jan. 30, 2018.
Born March 24, 1949 to the late Odum and Jethel Chumbley, she was a native of Dawson County. Mrs. Canup lived in Griffin for 30 years before returning to Dawson County in 2006. A graduate of Dawson County High School and Georgia Baptist School of Nursing, she worked as a Registered Nurse for Spalding Regional Hospital for 25 years and at Emory Midtown until her retirement. She was a member of Juno Baptist Church.
Her husband, Alfred Canup; brothers, Duren Chumbley, Clinton Chumbley; and her son-in-law, Steve Brown, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Trina Brown of Dawsonville, Tony and Opal Canup of Griffin, Ted Canup of Dawsonville; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bill Abercrombie of Gainesville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Eunice Chumbley of Dawsonville, Sarah Chumbley of Blairsville; aunt, Pat Cox of McRae; various other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 2 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Bottoms officiating.
The family received friends from 4 p.m until 8 p.m. Feb. 1 at the funeral home.
