Edward Ed Reeves

Edward "Ed" Reeves, 89, of Dawsonville, died July 24, 2014.

Born Oct. 31, 1924, in Lumpkin County to the late Albert and Essie Reeves, he lived most of his life in Dawson County.

Until his retirement, Mr. Reeves owned Reeves Construction.

Ed possessed a passion for coon hunting and had won numerous awards along with his prize winning dogs.

He was formerly a farmer and also took great pride in his gardening.

Very devoted to his family, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

His son, Fred M. Reeves; sister, Louise Barron; brothers, Raymond Reeves, Paul Reeves; and a grandson, Brian Bird, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Mamie Reeves of Dawsonville; children, Priscilla Westbrook of Toccoa, Ralph Reeves, Barbara Padgett, Ronnie Reeves, Nicky Reeves, Jason Reeves, all of Dawsonville; Peggy Moorhead of Gainesville; sisters, Isabelle, Maggie, Ruby Jean and Betty; brothers, James and Richard; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. July 27 at New Life Church of God with the Revs. Mike Owens and Troy Foster officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to help with final expenses.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
