Donnie and Jacquelyn "Jackie" Johnson, died Feb. 5, 2011.

 

Donnie was born March 12, 1948 in Atlanta to the late Harris and Dixie Johnson.

 

He retired from the City of Atlanta Water Department after 30 years of service, after which he was employed by the Gwinnett County Water Department for 15 years.

 

Jackie was born May 3, 1948 in Elmira, N.Y. and grew up in Atlanta. She retired from Lucent Technologies after more than 20 years of service.

 

Her mother, Blanche Smith, preceded her in death.

 

Donnie and Jackie were childhood sweethearts and married for 43 years. They moved to Dawson County in 1979 from Mableton. They were active in the community where they were loved and admired by many.

 

Survivors include Jackie's father, Nate Smith of Stockbridge; sister, Susan Smith of Stockbridge; brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Anne Smith of McDonough; Donnie's sister and brother-in-law, Candy and Daniel Pyron of Ellenwood; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harris Tucker III and Connie Johnson of Carrollton, Scott and Terri Johnson of Slocomb, Ala., Michael David and Amanda K. Johnson of Stuart, Fla., Victor Fairfax Johnson of Slocomb, Ala.; various other relatives also survive.

 

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 12 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations made to the Dawson County Humane Society, P.O. Box 360, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

 

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
