Don R. Mampel, 75, of Dawsonville, died Dec. 28, 2013.

Born Jan. 20, 1938, in Saint Paul, Minn., and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Don resided in Chicago, Ill., following his time in the Air Force where in 1970 he gave his life to Christ.

He eventually moved to Woodstock, Ga., in 1977.

Prior to retirement, he was employed by the City of Woodstock Street Department.

Prior to his passing, he lived in Dawsonville.

He had a free spirit and took great joy in the simpler things in life. He was a devoted father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

His wife, Georgia Mampel, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his children, Leonard E. and Marie Waugh of Woodstock, Ronda A. and Mike Robison of Dawsonville, Don and Judy Mampel Jr. of Cumming; special friend, Anne Moon of Dawsonville; siblings, Arthur Mampel of Washington, Jean Duncan and Debra Giradia, both of California, Janice Williams and Ed Mampel, both of Texas; 13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Dec. 30 from the graveside at the Kennesaw Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Sosebee Funeral Home of Canton was in charge of the arrangements.
