Barbara West, 88, of Dawson County, died March 17, 2016.

She grew up in Atlanta and Chattanooga.

Her parents were Alberta Louise and Noah B. Newman.

She attended Chattanooga High School and University of Chattanooga, where she belonged to Phi Mu sorority.

She married David J. West in 1947.

Her husband; and four sons, David E. West, Douglas N. West, Richard Alan West and Jeffery D. West, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Pamela West Mayer, Mark Wade West and Cynthia Louise West; grandchildren, Jennifer Mayer Kobres, Spencer Anthony Smith, Mathew Brian Mayer, Kristine Ann Est and William Preston West; great-grandchildren, Christian Kobres, Jasmine Kobres, Mackenzie Smith, Summer Smith; various other relatives also survive.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. April 2 at the home of Pam and Doug Mayer. The Rev. Frank Colladay, her longtime friend and chaplain, will speak along with friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to Alzheimer's research would be appreciated.
