The Dawson County Board of Education announced Friday that the Fall semester for all county schools will end on Dec. 18, two days earlier than previously scheduled in the school calendar.

In its announcement on Facebook, the Dawson County Board of Education said that the change to the school calendar would allow school staff to have more time to prepare before the start of the Spring 2021 semester.

“Superintendent Gibbs made the change after consulting with the BOE, district staff and school leaders,” the post said. “With students transitioning from virtual to in-person instruction, more time is needed to prepare for the new semester.”

But this change to the calendar won’t affect or modify any of the other previously approved dates for the 2020-21 school calendar, including when the school year will resume for the spring semester.

“The district remains committed to serving our students, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for the second semester on [Jan. 5, 2021],” the post said.
