The Dawson County Board of Education recognized several groups across the school system’s athletics and fine arts spectrum during the board’s meeting Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Here is the list of the teams and individuals highlighted.
Athletics:
DCHS Competition Cheer – Won Region 7-3A title and placed sixth at state championship.
DCHS Volleyball – Joint-winningest season in program history, placed third in Region 7-3A and made state playoffs.
DCHS Cross Country – Both teams made a state championship appearance, with the girls finishing fifth and the boys placing sixth.
DCMS Wrestling – Undefeated regular season with three individuals winning Mountain League championships (Javen Jett, Cody McBrayer and Ronan O’Keeffe).
Fine Arts:
DCHS Symphonic Band – Seven individuals recognized for earning spots at All-District honor band, All-State auditions, UGA JanFest and Young Harris Honor Band Clinic.

DCMS Band – Six individuals recognized for performing at the UGA MidFest. (Will Bean, Abigail Escoto-Torrez, Darriann Evans, William Holloway, Olivia McCrary and Will Murray.)
William Holloway recognized as first member in DCMS band history to be selected to the All-State honor band.
DCHS Chorus – Three All-State Chorus members (Noah Burnett, Barrett Mingledorff and Connor Woody).
DCJHS Chorus – Two All-State Chorus members (Rebecca Hodge and Elisabeth Frix)
DCMS Chorus – One All-State Chorus member (Kyndle Wright)
