Officials review evaluation process

A recent joint meeting of the Dawson County commission and tax assessor's board could become a regular occurrence.

The two groups met Oct. 5 to discuss property evaluations and how officials could work together in the future.

"One of the things we accomplished is we heard from them on ways we may be able to help them," said Commission Chairman Mike Berg.

"It's good to get together like this and hear what they have going on."

The county reappraised residential property in 2011, according to chief appraiser Michael Roberts.

"We'll be looking at commercial property in 2012," Roberts said.

Commissioners said they suggested the meeting to gain a better understanding of how the tax assessor board operates and determines evaluations.

Commissioner Gary Pichon said he was pleased with the outcome of the gathering, as well as the board's work.

Roberts, he said, is easily accessible and willing to work with the public.
