An equipment operator on Dawson County's road crew was injured when he was struck by a tree on a job site Monday morning on Perimeter Road.

Bruce Rayner, 48, of Dawsonville, was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Dawson County Manager Cindy Campbell said he was reported to be in stable condition Monday afternoon.

"It appears that his injuries are the result of an accident where equipment and protective gear were being properly utilized and procedures properly followed," she said. "Other public works personnel immediately rendered aid at the scene and called 911."

According to Campbell, the road crew was clearing debris left by the February ice storm at the time of the accident.

Officials estimated that 1,000 trees fell across the county during the storm.

Rayner has been employed with Dawson County Public Works since December.
