The Dawsonville City Council voted Monday night to appoint Bonnie Warne as city clerk.

Warne had been serving as interim clerk since mid-August, when the council terminated former clerk and city administrator Kim Cornelison.

The firing came within months of Cornelison being disciplined for her dealings with the media, employee relations and failing to keep the mayor “apprised of issues,” according to personnel records.

The city clerk’s primary duties include maintaining records, finances and assisting the mayor and city council in their duties.

Warne, who began working for the city as an administrative technician in 2005 and later in zoning and permitting, will also serve as secretary to Mayor Joe Lane Cox.

“She’ll do a good job,” Cox said. “She’s real thorough, takes her time and does things right.”

The council approved an increase in Warne’s annual salary to $37,040.
