Upcoming pageants support school band

Deadlines are coming up to enter this year’s Miss Dawson County Beauty Pageants — the band boosters’ chief fundraiser for the school year.

The annual pageants include Little Miss, Tiny Miss, Wee Miss, Junior Miss and Miss Dawson County. All are planned for two weekends in March at the Riverview Middle School auditorium.

Event co-director Sherry Allen said the event is beneficial for its contestants.

“It teaches these girls self confidence,” Allen said. “Let me tell you, it takes a lot of guts to get up there on stage in front of an audience like that.”

Band parent Ellen Harrison said the event is the “primary fundraiser for the band. Proceeds from the pageants underwrite all activities.”

The competition is open to all young female students and residents in Dawson County. A $25 entrance fee is due along with registration forms by March 4. Late entries will be accepted for $35.

Proof of Dawson County residency may be required of contestants.

Prizes for each winner include a crown and trophy. Four runners up will be named in each age category and each will receive a trophy.

A People’s Choice winner will also be recognized. All contestants will receive a certificate of participation.

Tiny Miss Dawson County (ages 4-kindergarten) and Wee Miss (grades 1-2) is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 12.

Little Miss Dawson County (grades 3-5) is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 11.

Junior Miss (grades 6-8) is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 25.

Miss Dawson County (grades 9-12) is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 26.

Rehearsals are planned for each group the Thursday evening prior to respective competitions.
