Library closes for furloughs

The Dawson County Library will be closed May 27-31 for staff furloughs and the Memorial Day Holiday.

Branch Manager Stacey Leonhardt said the library board approved the measure last month in an effort to cut costs.

“It’s a slow time of year right now for us,” Leonhardt said. “These days would have the least impact on patrons as well as staff.”

The library will reopen at 10 a.m. June 1.

No materials will be due and no fines will be accrued during the furlough days.

The last day to check items out before the closure is May 26.

Access to the Web site will be available. However, no staff members will be working on the site for assistance.

There will be no programs or events in library meeting rooms during the closure.

The library closed its doors for staff furloughs in December 2009 as well. The branch closed from Dec. 24-Jan. 1.
