Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosts food drive

The Riverview Middle School Fellowship of Christian Athletes club spent the two weeks before Christmas break sponsoring a canned food drive to support the local Dawson County RIC Rack food bank.

More than 400 canned goods were collected by the 16 different homerooms at the school. The total amount of food collected averaged out to more than one canned good collected for each student that attends Riverview Middle.

Since the Fellowship of Christian Athletes membership is made up of local athletes, they decided to make the drive a little competitive by offering a doughnut “brunch” to the homeroom that collected the most canned goods.

The homeroom of seventh grade teacher Jeff Compton collected a total of 86 cans. Compton’s homeroom received its doughnut brunch Dec. 19.

“The FCA members wanted to do something to help out the local community.

Students recognized there was a need in the community with so many families being affected by the down economy.  I’m extremely proud of our RMS students and faculty and the support they have shown to everyone around us that is in need,” said Stephen Gerrells, sponsor of the school’s club.
