The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) has named the Dawson County Public School System a SACS Super System.

Dawson County Associate Superintendent of Schools Keith Porter said the Dawson County School System has maintained SACS accreditation since the 80’s and is one of only approximately 50 school systems in the state of Georgia to gain accreditation this year.

“Every five years, educators throughout the northeast visit our schools to see that we are continuing to meet the personnel and curriculum standards of SACS CASI (Council on Accreditation and School Improvements), NCA (North Central Association Commission) CASI and NSSE (National Study of School Evaluation),” said Porter.

Founded in 1895, SACS CASI accredits over 13,000 schools and school systems throughout the United States and overseas.

SACS CASI is an accreditation division of AdvancED, which provides a unified accreditation process designed to help schools continuously improve.

AdvancED accreditation standards are based on a school’s ongoing self-assessment against the quality standards of continuous improvement.

Porter said he is proud to see that the strides in education that Dawson County continues to make and the efforts of the school system’s staff to maintain full accreditation each year has made the Dawson County Public School System a model of success throughout the region.

“It takes a lot of hard work on the part of staff and faculty to maintain our accreditation and to continue to provide the opportunities in education to the students of Dawson County and we’re very appreciative,” said Porter.
