United Way of Dawson County held its annual Day of Caring as a kickoff to its 2012-2013 year, on Friday, September 14. This years fundraising goal is $100,013.

We decided to make it $100,013 for 2013, explained Brian Hendrix, chairman of the advisory board for UWDC. And, we are going to try our best to make that goal, he added. We really need to, it goes to a great cause. Volunteers spent the Day of Caring at the Dawson County Senior Center, Adult Learning Center, and the NOA Shelter, assisting with various projects. Hendrix said the event is a great way to start off the year. We want to give back to the community that gives so much to us, said Hendrix. So we try to show our appreciation this way. The next fundraiser for UWDC will be a BBQ benefit on Saturday, October 6 at 3 p.m., and is $25 per person. The benefit will also include a Hole-In-One Golf Challenge, sponsored by Chestatee Ford, where golfers have a chance to win a new Ford F-150 truck. The cost is $20 per swing. To RSVP to this event by September 28, or for more information about United Way of Dawson County, contact Lindsay Bohannon at 770-781-4110.
