Two 17-year-olds were injured in an early morning accident on Tuesday.

A male was transported by Dawson County Emergency Services to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, and a female was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center, according to Georgia State Patrol spokesperson Robin Stone.

The names of the driver and his passenger are not being released because they are minors, Stone said.

The accident occured at 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of Howser Mill Road and Highway 53.

According to Stone, the male was driving his 1991 Chevrolet S10 too fast for conditions northbound on Howser Mill Road. When he attempted to negotiate a curve, he lost control of the car and tried to overcorrect his turn. The truck then traveled into the west shoulder of the road and struck several trees. Stone said the truck then rolled over on the drivers side and continued to travel before it struck more trees and came to a final rest.

The male was issued six citations including: violation of license restrictions, too fast for conditions, no proof of insurance, failure to maintain lane, no tag and driving without a license.

Stone said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident.

Over the holiday weekend, Stone said GSP worked five accidents in Dawson County.
