Dawson County sent nine wrestlers to the State Sectionals at Morgan County on Feb.

6 and 7, and six of them will move on to the State Traditional Wrestling Tournament this

weekend in Macon.

Harrison Adams, wrestling in the 138-pound class, backed up last weekends

Traditional Area title with a State Sectionals Qualifier championship. Adams narrowly escaped a preliminary match on Saturday, but pulled off a last-second take down for two points and a one-point win over his opponent.

Coach Arron Haynes is thrilled with how his team performed at Morgan County.

Six is the most weve gotten to the State Finals in several years, he said. Harrison had an outstanding tournament and is peaking at just the right time.

Gavin Brown, who was also an Area champion last week, finished as the runner-up in the 195-class, while Jeremy Whalen (145) finished fourth, Brett Whalen (182) finished fifth, Justin Evans (113) finished seventh and Ty Williams (285) finished in eighth place to sneak into this weekends tournament.

I know some of the guys would have like to have placed higher, but this weekend was all about qualifying and seeding for the State Tournament, Haynes said.

The State champions will be named this weekend and the action takes place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Macon.
