Swimmers compete at state meet

The Dawsonville Racers summer league swim team made waves when they competed at the State meet in Tifton this past weekend.

Aidan Kudlas won the 9-10 Boys State Championship in the 25 yard breaststroke and the 100 yard individual medley.

Isabelle Kinsey finished in third place in the 9-10 Girls 25 yard backstroke, Luke Mulberry placed seventh in the 9-10 Boys 50 yard freestyle and Brenna Kudlas finished in ninth place in the 7-8 Girls 25 yard breaststroke for the team during the individual events.

In the relay events, Thomas Cameron, Avery Hout, Aidan Kudlas and Luke Mulberry worked together to secure eighth place in the 9-10 Boys Medley Relay and ninth place in the 9-10 Boys freestyle relay.

The Dawsonville Racers are a summer league team with swimmers just beginning their exploration of competition swimming as well as swimmers who swim year round. Swimmers start as young as 5-years-old and can swim for the team until they reach 18.

The veteran swimmers are wonderful teaching tools and enjoy helping with the newbies as much as I do, said Stephanie Morgan, the teams head coach.

Lauren Dare, the teams Training Coach, taught the swimmers strokes, nutrition for athletes and instructed the swimmers about the competition aspect of swimming.

The State meet was awesome, Morgan said. My greatest joy is watching the hard work all the swimmers put into training to reach goals and seeing the excitement on their faces when they do so. I love to watch them swim.
