Approximately 200 pounds of methamphetamine has been seized in what officials are calling a Dawson County-based drug trafficking operation.

During the course of a 12-month investigation, about 200 pounds of methamphetamine were seized, said Sherry Lang, director of public affairs with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Six people were arrested and dozens of weapons confiscated, she said.

We are not releasing names at this time, said Lang. There may be additional arrests as the investigation continues.

The GBI and Dawson and Forsyth County sheriffs offices executed seven search warrants last Wednesday.

District attorneys in both counties

and the Northern District of Georgia U.S. Attorneys Office were also involved, according to Lang.

With the wholesale price of meth in Atlanta estimated at $8,000 to $18,500 per pound, according to narcoticsnews.com, the seizure is worth approximately $1.6 million to $3.7 million.
