A 110-acre retail power center in Dawson County has leased space to several small but well known chain restaurants and a mattress company, according to the leasing companys website.

The center, now being called Dawson Marketplace, will be located between Dawson Forest Road and Whitmire Drive on Georgia 400.

Starbucks, Chipotle, Panda Express, Pollo Tropical, and Mattress Firm have taken space, according to a property map posted online Nov. 11 by The Shopping Center Group. Several outparcels and an anchor big box retailer have not been named.

Six mid-sized boxes like those you see in Cumming, youll see come up here, Dawson County Board of Commissioners Chair Mike Berg said recently at a Rotary Club meeting. They are still in negotiations with one big box, and I expect all that will come pretty quickly.

Work at the site is expected to begin in February or March 2015 and land is being cleared.

In addition, across Georgia 400, a major grocery retailer is expected plus two restaurants and five outparcels. Officials with Publix last week would not confirm their commitment.

When everything is finished, we expect to add 440 jobs and $90 million worth of construction and land development, Berg said. Were pretty proud of that.

Behind the grocery store, a 300-unit apartment complex is awaiting zoning approval.

Also, behind the three-story Northside-Dawson Medical Campus, MESH Engineering will be located. The company specializes in the design, building and service of custom manufacturing equipment.
