Power, Gaines take council positions

The numbers are in and Jason Power and Chris Gaines are Dawsonvilles newest city council members.

Power picked up 36 percent of the vote (194 votes) and Gaines grabbed 28 percent (153 votes). Dawsonvilles city council members are chosen at large and the top two vote getters win the two available seats.

Incumbents Mike Sosebee and Mike Wilson finished third and fourth with 20 percent (110 votes) and nine percent (54 votes) respectively. Frank Craft a former council member earned 5 percent of the vote (29 votes).

Mayor Joe Lane Cox will return for another term as he ran unopposed in this years election. Cox gathered 240 votes, or 96 percent. There were nine write-in votes, but there were certified write-in candidates.

Only 28 percent (314 voters) of Dawsonvilles registered voters participated in this years election. There are 1,104 registered voters in Dawsonville.

Early voting did see an increase over the 2009 elections with 150 voters voting in the weeks before the election. The 2009 election only saw 99 early voters.

The 2009 city elections did see a larger turn out overall, with 475 voters participating.
