The competitive atmosphere was unbelievable at Dawson County High School gymnasium as the Tigers shocked Buford 42-35 on Wednesday night.
Just as they have done all season, the Dawson varsity boys basketball team stuck to their game plan and drove their opponent crazy.
But this time, there was much more on the line as No. 8 ranked Buford threatened to silence the Tigers' season.
Dawson battled back from a halftime deficit to within two points.
When Buford tried to stall (for two minutes) to get the final shot of the third quarter, the Tigers stole the ball and scored as time ran out to knot the score 28-28.
With the fans in an absolute frenzy, the Dawson squad held their composure and sank numerous difficult shots, plus plenty of pressure-packed free throws in the final minutes to pull off the upset.
Dawson will advanced to battle Jordan High School this Friday (March 2) at the NW Georgia Trade Center in Dalton at 4 p.m. in the "Elite 8."
