A Ranger man was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and obstruction of an officer last week following a foot chase with the Dawson County Sheriff's Office, according to Sheriff-Elect Jeff Johnson.
A passer-by reported a man lying in a ditch Aug. 12 on Hwy. 53 West. Dispatch sent officers to check on his welfare.
Donald Scott Silvers, 34, left on foot before officers could arrive on scene, according to Johnson.
"While searching for Silvers to determine the state of his welfare, the communications center began receiving reports of an unknown male looking into a home and trying to gain entry," Johnson said.
Shortly thereafter Silvers was spotted by officers on Howser Mill Road.
According to Johnson, Silvers then fled.
Officers chased and apprehended Silvers, who was charged with possession of a controlled substance believed to be methamphetamine, as well as obstruction of an officer.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Silvers remained in Dawson County Detention Center custody.
