A Dawsonville woman remains hospitalized and her boyfriend is in custody a week after what authorities described as a brutal attack at an extended stay motel.

Sheriff’s officials say the 34-year-old woman suffered extensive injuries in the Nov. 23 beating.

She remains in an area hospital, where authorities say she required major surgery for her injuries.

Dawson County Sheriff’s Lt. Tony Wooten said Johns Creek police alerted the local department to the woman’s condition.

The victim’s live-in boyfriend, 33-year-old Matthew Dwight Willis of Dawsonville, was arrested Nov. 25 at the motel. He faces felony counts of aggravated assault (family violence) and aggravated battery.

“Investigators believe the suspect struck the victim, causing injuries to her face and head,” Wooten said.

Willis, who is being held without bond at the Dawson County Detention Center, has previous family violence arrests, jail records show.
