A 21-year-old Baldwin man was killed on July 29 after he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a pickup truck on Hwy. 9.

Dawson County Coroner Ted Bearden confirmed Elijah C. Simmons died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Emergency personnel said Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, which happened about 5:45 p.m. at Jewell Slaton Road near the Dawson-Forsyth County line.

Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Robin Stone said Simmons was in a curve when he lost control of his 2002 Yamaha 350 and collided head-on with a 2004 Ford Explorer driven by Patrick Altmann of Dawsonville.

"As he exited the curve, [he] lost control of the motorcycle and crossed the double centerline," Stone said.

"Roadway marks and area of impact show that [the Explorer] swerved to the right to avoid the collision."

Altmann was not injured in the crash.
