The Dawson County Chamber of Commerce has chosen a familiar face as its new membership director.

Longtime chamber member and community volunteer Kara Hewatt accepted the position last week. Today is her first day on the job.

"I am honored and excited to be selected as the new membership director for the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce," she said. "I have enjoyed being a part of this great community the past six years, and I look forward to working with our members and our community to find out how we can better serve their needs and help them to thrive."

Active in the chamber's Ambassador Program for many years, Hewatt is well known in the community for her work with United Way. She has also been involved with Relay for Life, Red Cross, Keep Dawson County Beautiful, Dawson County Jaycees and is a 2008 Leadership Dawson graduate.

Chamber President Christie Haynes said Hewatt's connections in the community, coupled with her passion and enthusiasm, made her a standout among candidates for the vital position.

"I am extremely excited that Kara will be joining our team," Haynes said. "She has innumerable qualities that I believe will be tremendous assets to the chamber and I look forward to seeing all that our team can accomplish with our community in the coming year."

According to Haynes, Hewatt will be responsible for membership development with a focus on communications and programming.

"In general, the membership director position exists to ensure that the chamber is always meeting our member's needs," Haynes said.

"We are always looking for new and innovative ways to serve our members and Kara will be leading that effort."

A graduate of North Georgia College & State University, Hewatt holds a bachelor's of business degree in marketing.
