The man charged with bringing quality economic development to the county has been recognized for his work.

Charlie Auvermann, executive director of the Development Authority of Dawson County, has been selected as the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission's Appointed Official of the Year.

The award was presented on Dec. 5 by Sam Norton, chairman of the GMRC Council and Danny Lewis GMRC Executive Director.

Auvermann was selected because of his work on the GMRC Council and Committees and especially for the efforts he has led in Dawson County's economic development department.

"He now serves as chairman of our CEDS Committee, on which he has served for six years," said Norton. "He is asked to speak at many functions for numerous groups, leads work with maker spaces, teaches on the collegiate level, and works with local development activities."
