The fourth annual ‘Race for Grace’ occured Saturday, Sept. 18 at Rock Creek Park, in honor of Grace Sheer, who lost her life in a car accident in 2018, during her senior year at Dawson County High School.
All proceeds from the race are being donated to the Grace Sheer Scholarship Fund. The Grace Sheer Scholarship Fund will provide a scholarship for one female athlete at Dawson County High School who exemplifies Grace through her work ethic, kindness and dedication to not only athletics, but also academically and with her outstanding character.


This year’s race was a color run. Runners could attend the race at Rock Creek Park or attend virtually, by sending their times in off of a fitness app.
Sheer lived in Dawson County her whole life and was a member of the DCHS Lady Tigers soccer team all four years of high school. She was additionally a member of Chamber Singers, the Interact Club and the National Spanish Honors Society, with plans of attending Kennesaw State University.


“Most importantly, though, Grace was a kind soul,” the website said. “Her positive attitude and kind words could make any of her classmates’ day a little brighter. Additionally, Grace was fiercely loyal to and unquestionably loved her family and friends. Each and every day that Grace was with us, she demonstrated the true meaning of good character.”
