Etowah Water and Sewer Authority, one of several local businesses whose employees contribute to United Way for Dawson County, collected more than $600 last Thursday with a community hot dog lunch fundraiser.

Etowah holds two fundraisers each year and donates proceeds to United Way for Dawson County, which in turn invests in projects and organizations throughout the community.

“We served over 150 hot dogs,” said Doris Cook, the authority’s resource manager.

Etowah employees began contributing to United Way a few years ago at the encouragement of board member Herb Burnsed, who also sits on the board of directors for the local United Way.

“We try to help out in a variety of ways in the community, United Way, Relay for Life, KARE for Kids and NOA,” Cook said. “We’re just doing our part.”
