Zell Miller left his mark on Georgia
Tom Crawford
Zell Bryan Miller, the late governor and senator from Georgia, was known throughout his political career by the nickname “Zig-Zag Zell.” It was a moniker that was honestly acquired. He could be charming and humorous when he wanted to be. I remember one time, during Miller’s brief tenure in the U.S. Senate, when he dropped by the capitol during the legislative session to touch base with the people back home. We asked him if he was planning to run for a full term in that august body. “I’m not planning anything,” Miller quipped. “At my age, I don’t even buy green bananas.”
