Recently, several students from the Dawson County High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) program represented their high school and their county in poultry evaluation, landscaping and electrical wiring competitions.

On Tuesday Feb. 28, several DCHS FFA members competed in the North Regional Poultry Evaluation and the Nursery/Landscape career development events held at Pickens High School.


According to FFA Advisor Keith Pankey, the poultry evaluation contest consisted of live broiler birds and hens, exterior and interior eggs, ready-to-eat and retail cut products and carcass grading. The poultry team included EmmaGrace Pankey, Cooper Beary, Shandee Stowers and Mackenzie Pruett. The team placed eighth overall out of 27 competing teams, and Beary was the 23rd highest individual in seniors.
The nursery and landscape contest included identifying outside landscaping plants, taking a general knowledge written exam and a math practicum and disorders identification.


The nursery and landscape team included Cheyenne Simmons, Matthew Hannah, Bella Rider and Connor Mitchell. The team placed fifth overall, and Rider was the 11th highest individual in the seniors.
Also recently, DCHS FFA member Bryce Beach competed in the State FFA EMC Electrical Wiring contest, which was held at the FFA camp in Covington, Ga.


The event included a problem solving and general knowledge written exam, a speech demonstration and wiring an electrical circuit.
Beach placed second at the first area event and ninth in the state event on March 4.
