Jared's 5K Fun Run for the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer is Friday at Rock Creek Park. Registration is $5 per person. Check-in is from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. at the large pavilion. The race will begin at 6:30 p.m.

A local youth plans to donate proceeds from a 5K race he organized to help a group of women signed up to participate in the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

Jared Posey, 11, of Dawsonville said he invites the community out to Rock Creek Park on Friday afternoon for the race. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and is $5 per person.

The race begins at 6:30 p.m.

An avid runner who plans to join the Riverview Middle School track team, Posey said he wanted to help a neighbor who told him she was fundraising for the 2-Day walk in October.

"I wanted to help her and her team and help raise awareness for breast cancer," he said.

Neighbor Gail Cheney said she was overwhelmed by the preteen's concern and determination to make a difference.

"I was just in shock -the fact that he would even come up with something like this. It means the world to me and the other women in the group," she said.

With a little guidance from his parents, John and Jolene Posey, Posey planned and organized the inaugural Jared's 5K Run.

His mother said she couldn't be more proud.

"He just got that light bulb in his head and followed through," she said.
