Volunteers served more than 300 meals at the second annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner last month at the Lakeview Center.

Organized by the Alliance of Churches of Dawson County, volunteers also delivered meals to several homebound seniors in the community Nov. 23.

Alliance volunteer Jim Bohl called the dinner a great success.

"We had people from many walks of life. A lot were from the senior center and there were many who were there for a Thanksgiving dinner that didn't have anyone to spend the holiday with," he said.

The food, donated by the Bishop's Storehouse of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was prepared and served by more than 100 volunteers.

Plans are already in the works for a third annual community Thanksgiving dinner that is scheduled to be held Nov. 21, 2012.

A partnership of churches and community organizations who wish to serve the needs of Dawson County residents, the alliance consists of 11 area churches as well as RIC Rack, Family Connection and KARE for Kids.

The group's current projects include a summer food program for school children, volunteers to serve at the RIC Rack Food Pantry and a home repair/improvement assistance program for low income and senior citizens.

The community is invited to learn more about the Alliance of Churches. The group meets at noon the first Tuesday of each month at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex's upstairs conference room.
