The markers are placed to honor the deceased men and women who have served honorably in one of the branches of military service.

The veterans to be honored for the first time this year are Lloyd F. Vaughters, Howard E. Pruett and John R. Sherwood.

All three are World War II Veterans.

The markers can be seen around the old courthouse in downtown Dawsonville.

There will be 132 Dawson County Veterans remembered this Memorial Day with markers placed throughout town.

A Memorial Day service is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 31 at Veterans Park, Hwy. 9 North, Dawsonville.

Take a moment to pause this Memorial Day and remember all that the veterans have done for our freedom.
