The community is encouraged to line the streets of downtown Dawsonville to honor local veterans.

Veterans Affairs of Dawson County is hosting its annual Veterans Day celebration on Monday, Nov. 11 at the Dawson County Junior High School.

At 1 p.m., the lunchroom at the junior high school will be filled with local veterans, sheriff’s office deputies, firefighters and EMT workers for a Chick-fil-A lunch provided by the Etowah Water and Sewer Authority.

The annual program will follow at 2 p.m. in the DCJHS auditorium. The program is open to the public. It includes awards given to local heroes as well as a program honoring those who served.

Weather permitting, the parade will start at 3:30 p.m. at DCJHS and go through downtown. Organizers encourage the community to line the streets to cheer on local heroes.
