A 12-year-old girl and her father were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital on Saturday night after they suffered burns in a vehicle fire on Perimeter Road.

“They both had various degrees of burns,” said Lanier Swafford, chief of Dawson County Emergency Services.

Swafford said they were burned as they attempted to exit a pickup truck that was engulfed in flames on Perimeter, near McGregor Lane.

The names of the father and daughter have not been released, though Swafford said the man lives in Dawson County.

“The father is local,” he said. “His daughter is from Gainesville.”

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, which was reported about 7:20 p.m.

Tim Satterfield, deputy chief of emergency services, said authorities have not determined how the fire started.

He said the girl was flown to the hospital’s burn unit while her father was taken by ambulance.
