Thanksgiving dinner planned

Invitations to a free Thanksgiving dinner have been extended to the community from the local alliance of churches.

Volunteers from the Dawson County Church Alliance plan to bake 25 turkeys for the Nov. 24 event that will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Lakeview Center on Dawson Forest Road.

The dinner will also feature a variety of vegetables, side dishes, breads and homemade desserts.

“We’re planning this to reach out to folks in need,” Doug Powell said. “We want to make it a meaningful occasion for everyone.”

Made up of about 10 churches from the Dawsonville area, the alliance hopes to feed between 150 and 250 people.

“All the churches are volunteering to prepare the food and to serve it,” Powell said. “The Lakeview Center has graciously donated its facility.”

This is the first major collaboration of the church alliance, which formed about four years ago and meets monthly in an effort to unite for the community.
