With school well underway, teachers, students and staff are quickly forming connections that will last a lifetime.
But no one knows the impact of learning on young minds better than the 2017-2018 Dawson County teachers of the year, seven educators chosen by their peers this spring to represent the best of what the school system has to offer.
Selected this year with the honor are Jennifer Smith from Dawson County High School; Kevin Woody from Dawson County Junior High School; Jessie Gravitt from Dawson County Middle School; Lisa Allen from Black’s Mill Elementary School; Dana Fowler from Kilough Elementary School; Nichole Green from Riverview Elementary School; and Lauren Zadernak from Robinson Elementary School.
Each of the teachers of the year will go through an interview process in early October with an external committee that will select the system winner, according to Chief Human Resources Officer Lisa Perry.
The board could be prepared to announce the winner at its October meeting.
The Dawson County Chamber of Commerce also holds a luncheon each April to honor the teachers of the year.
Over the next few weeks the Dawson County News will be highlighting the teachers of the year and what makes them outstanding examples of their profession.
