Organizers hope a New Year’s Eve gala Friday night will raise enough funds to stock a new surgical center for the Dawson County Humane Society.

Tickets are $30 each but are going quickly, according to animal shelter volunteers.

“We’ve sold more than 60 tickets already,” said Virginia Matteson, fundraising chair. “We think it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Proceeds from the event will supply the shelter’s new surgical center, which is scheduled to be completed by February or March.

The event will be held at Chestatee Lodge inside the Chestatee subdivision off Hwy. 400 North.

“The shelter has a lot of supporters in Chestatee,” said Matteson, who added the neighborhood has for many years been a “dumping ground” for unwanted pets.

The party starts at 7:30 p.m.
