Camp meeting at Lumpkin Campground in Dawsonville will continue this week through Sunday July 31.
The 186-year tradition at Lumpkin Campground, on Lumpkin Campground Road, across from Bethel United Methodist Church is held beneath the open air arbor at the center of the 40-acre grove each morning at 11 a.m. and each evening at 7:45 p.m. through Saturday.
The last service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Local Methodists began meeting for summer revival at Lumpkin Campground in 1830, after 40 local men each donated $1 for its purchase.
Today, families own "tents," small house-like structures on the property that are used during the yearly weeklong revival, as well as during Bethel UMC's vacation Bible school camps.
All are invited to attend the worship and share in the spiritual celebration.
