A picnic Saturday at War Hill Park on Lake Lanier will give local voters an opportunity to meet with key lawmakers in a casual setting.

Congressman Doug Collins, R-Gainesville, will be the event's keynote speaker with appearances by Martha Zoller and several candidates vying to replace Republican U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Moultrie, who has announced he won't seek a third term.

Linda Clary-Umberger, president of the Foothills Republican Women, said the picnic, in its inaugural year, promises to be a fun, family event.

The picnic starts at 11 a.m. A barbecue lunch will be served and guests are asked to bring a covered dish. The main course meat and drinks will be provided.

The park features a beach with volleyball net, fishing pier and boat ramps. There is a $3 per vehicle day-use fee at the park.

Sponsors of the free event include, the Dawson County Tea Party, Foothills Republican Women, Northeast Georgia Republican Women, Dawson County Republican Party and Lumpkin County Republican Party.
