Authorities investigating a suspicious package reported in the parking lot of Walmart in Dawsonville last week found no threat to the public.

"Everything is good. The GBI looked at it and determined that it was safe," said Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle.

Deputies were called to the parking lot of supercenter on Ga. 400 just after 7 a.m. April 7.

Carlisle said the report his office received was that a suspicious package had been located under a vehicle in the parking lot.

Agents with the GBI's bomb detection squad were called to the scene.

They quickly determined that the package was not a threat.

Carlisle said stores in the area remained open while agents investigated the package.

Side streets leading to the Walmart parking lot were cordoned off until the area was deemed secure.
