Organization looking for holiday families

Christmas is less than two months away and one local organization is looking for ways to help make it a happy time for everyone.

No One Alone, the domestic violence center that serves Dawson and Lumpkin counties, is looking for families to help out during the holiday season.

"This is the time of year that NOA begins our Adopt-a-Family program," said Elaine Cannon, associate director. "For many years, we have secured happy holidays for victims of domestic violence and their children through the support and donations of people in our community."

The NOA Adopt-a-Family program matches a family in need with a sponsor family for Christmas gifts this holiday season.

"NOA sponsors an Adopt-a-Family Program to assure a brighter Christmas for those going through traumatic times," Cannon said. "Domestic violence affects the entire family and most especially the children. This program ensures that each family experiences the spirit of the holidays through gifts made possible by generous donors in the community."

The program is done confidentially. Neither the donor nor the family will know the identity of the other.

If you or your company would like to participate, contact Cannon at (706) 344-3853 or at ecannon@noonealone.org by Nov. 15.
