Officials say man charged in death of woman he met at Rainbow gathering
Law enforcement withholding ID of victim
police emergency

An unidentified woman was allegedly killed by a man she met at the Rainbow Family of Living Light gathering last week, according to Lumpkin County and Kentucky officials.

Joseph Bryan Capstraw, 20, was arrested and charged with the woman's murder by the Elizabethtown Police Department in Kentucky. Capstraw told authorities he met the woman where the off-the-grid, counter-culture group had assembled in the Bull Mountain area of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest just outside of Dahlonega.

The Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office said Sunday the victim had been identified but did not disclose the name of the woman, who apparently hitchhiked to Kentucky with Capstraw from the event. It is unclear where Capstraw resides.

According to Kentucky media reports, Capstraw allegedly told police he blacked out and killed the woman.

Elizabethtown police did not answer a call for comment Sunday.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard at (706) 864-0414 or stacy.jarrard@lumpkincounty.gov.
