Nordson Corporation donated 30 bikes last week that will be given to area children this holiday season.

The bikes were distributed during KARE for Kids' annual Christmas campaign.

President Calvin Byrd said community contributions are vital to the success of the program each year.

"We appreciate their willingness to partner with us and help the kids in Dawson County," Byrd said.

This is the second year Nordson has provided bikes for the Christmas campaign.

"It's all about the Nordson Foundation and our activities in the community and our willingness to give back," said Jeff Skimel, factory manager.

The bikes donated by Nordson were added to nearly 100 bikes KARE for Kids purchased for local children.

"Thanks to Nordson, we're going to be able to give 30 more kids bikes this year," Byrd said.

The number of families requesting holiday assistance from KARE for Kids grows each year, according to the nonprofit organization.

"But that's what we're here for," Byrd said. "That's why we work all year long to raise money and raise awareness that there are kids in Dawson County that are needy, that don't have the opportunity that a lot of us are fortunate to have."
