NOA talent show

Auditions for a talent show to benefit victims of domestic violence will be held in Dawson County next week.

No One Alone, a domestic violence shelter serving those in Dawson and Lumpkin counties, will be hosting “North Georgia’s Got Talent” on Oct. 14.

All ages and all kinds of talent are welcome, from singers, dancers, poets, comedians, magicians and more.

Auditions will be held from 3:30 to 6 p.m.  on Aug. 15 at Lumpkin County High School and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.  on Aug. 17 at the Dawson County High School Performing Arts Center.  Those interested in auditioning can register online at www.noonealone.org/talent. There is a $25 fee to audition and a $5 fee to watch.

Walk-ins may be allowed, time permitting.  The act should feature a 90 second demonstration of talent.  A second 90 second backup performance should be prepared in case the judges request more to evaluate.

Up to five acts will be selected at each audition, and some alternates may be named.

Finalists will be posted on the NOA website by 6 p.m. the day after each audition.

The entry fee to the finale Oct. 14 is $20 and can be made by mail, online or at the event. The event begins at 3 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center.

First place will receive $500, second place $250 and third place $100.

People’s Choice, which is determined by the act that gets the most votes in the form of one vote per $1, will receive $150 or 15 percent of their “votes” (whichever is higher), and second and third place People’s Choice will get 10 percent of their votes.

Votes can be made by cash, check (by mail before October 7) or credit card online and are due at or before the event.

Votes and donations can be made up to 15 minutes after the show in the contestant’s boxes.

If the selected acts want to get votes by selling advertisements for the program, sponsorships, tickets and/or donations, they must be submitted by Sept. 1 and will count toward People’s Choice votes.

Participants under the age of 18 must have parental consent and be accompanied to rehearsal and the event by a parent or legal guardian.
