Nine arrested for selling alcohol to underage customers

On Nov. 28, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office investigators conducted an undercover operation targeting the sale of alcohol to persons under 21 years of age.

According to Sheriff Jeff Johnson, as a result of the operation, nine individuals were arrested and charged with the misdemeanor offense of furnishing alcohol to an underage person.

The accused and the location are detailed below:

Evan James Beresford, 26, of Dahlonega. The incident was reported to have occurred at City Liquor located at 55 Hwy. 53 W in Dawsonville. Beresford was arrested and has since been released on a $1,200 bond.

Monteen Kay Burton, 55, of Dawsonville. The incident was reported to have occurred at the Shell Food Mart located at 41 Big Horn Drive.  Burton was arrested and has since been released on a $1,200 bond.

Babul Ghosh, 56, of Duluth.  The incident was reported to have occurred at Dawson Food and Gas located at 6623 Hwy. 9 S. Ghosh was arrested and has since been released on a $1,200 bond.

Joann S. Jones, 65, of Dawsonville. The incident was reported to have occurred at the Dawson Fine Wine/Spirits located at 46 Blue Ridge Parkway. Jones was arrested and has since been released on a $1,200 bond.

Jeffrey Friis Knudsen, 37, of Dawsonville. The incident was reported to have occurred at the BP gas station located at 75 Hwy. 9 N in Dawsonville. Knudsen was arrested and has since been released on a $1,200 bond.

Chiragkumari A. Patel, 35, of Dawsonville. The incident was reported to have occurred at the Happy Food Mart located at 2360 Dawson Forest Road.  Patel was arrested and has since been released on a $1,200 bond.

Neelam Patel, 31, of Dawsonville. The incident was reported to have occurred at the Gold Creek Exxon located at 2131 Hwy. 9 N in Dawsonville. Patel was arrested and has since been released on a $1,200 bond.

Shraddha Bhupendra Patel, 30, of Cumming, has been twice accused of unlawfully furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a person under 21 years of age. The incidents were reported to have occurred at the War Hill Package Store located at 40 War Hill Park Road. Patel was arrested and has since been released on a $2,200 bond.

Upendrakumar J. Patel, 58, of Suwanee. The incident was reported to have occurred at the Premium Package Store located at 3651 Dawson Forest Road. Patel was arrested and has since been released on a $1,200 bond.

“Although we are disappointed with the number of violations, we are encouraged at the amount of stores who did abide by the law. We appreciate these stores doing what is right and what is expected,” Johnson said. “We also want our area businesses to know that we will continue to conduct these types of investigations.
