Solidifying its reputation in the community as the most dependable source of news and information, the Dawson Community News today launches a revamped Web site.

With a spotlight on local breaking news, dawsonnews.com has incorporated dynamic multimedia technology into a new site design to more quickly provide innovative news coverage to readers.

Beginning today, dawsonnews.com will offer local audio and video footage, photo galleries and interactive features to provide readers with enhanced coverage of the community.

In addition to print publication, dawsonnews.com will help bring the stories of the community to life as they unfold. News will be updated on the Web site as it happens on a daily basis.

Dawson Community News Publisher John Hall said the Web site will give the newspaper one more way to meet the information and advertising needs of local residents.

“Many of our residents check online news sources at work and with mobile devices while on the go,” he said. “That says a lot about the appetite for information and the demographics that make up our county.”

More importantly, Hall said, the newspaper now brings content from a team of local journalists to a local news site that is constantly changed and updated throughout the day.

“Dawsonnews.com allows us to keep viewers up to date on local events in ways we never could before,” he said.

The newly designed Web site will feature in-depth local coverage, enhanced high school sports coverage and breaking news. Visitors will be able to hear excerpts of audio recordings of city council and county commission meetings, as well as interviews with local officials, educators and artists.

The site will facilitate and enhance interaction between readers and the DCN newsroom. Readers will be able to comment on stories, relate news tips and discuss issues affecting the local community.

“Our new Web site will give advertisers the ability to reach additional readers and offers advertising modules geared toward specific interests, such as real estate, dining and online classifieds,” Hall said.

Among other enhancements, the Community section on the Web will allow readers to post information and photographs, with local picture albums and community blogs. A community events calendar lets visitors submit local events on the site’s calendar, offering a broader coverage of the local community.

“The ‘community’ aspects of the new Web site will substantially increase our online reader base by fostering an ‘electronic neighborhood’ for the county with blogs, shared photo galleries and opportunities to exchange ideas and opinions,” Hall said.

As a news source and a forum for discussion, dawsonnews.com will allow the newspaper to report what’s happening as it happens in the community.

The DCN print edition will continue to provide in-depth coverage of the local community, and the new Web component will be used to enhance that coverage with more photos, video and audio.

“We expect our number of readers to double in the next few months with print and online combined,” Hall said.
